Photoshoot!

Bring your drift car if you'd like to be photographed with a couple of U-Drift girls tomorrow (Wednesday, January 9) at 2 PM on-site.

Looks like things are moving along. Did they finally approve you? What is taking so long?

U-Drift won its zoning court case!  Drifting is specifically legal in all CB-2 zones inside the city limits of Birmingham thanks to our court victory (Civil Action Number CV 07-2560 JSV).

Unfortunately, the trial took time and our lease at Century Plaza has expired.  We are now actively searching for a large, unused parking lot to lease in the Birmingham area.

If you know of a closed Wal-Mart, shopping center like Westlake Plaza, large grocery store, giant automobile dealership, etc...then please post it here.

We'd like to find 7+ acres of existing but generally vacant pavement.

UPDATE: The Birmingham Department of Permits and Planning declared that automobile drifting *is* permitted in M-2 Zones in addition to CB-2 zones.

This means that abandoned heavy industrial sites are fair game for a new U-Drift location.

So has there been any good news or is this dead in the water?

Two different sites have contacted us about leasing their property for drifting. This economy will eventually spring loose the right location for us.

I'd guess Fall 2009.

I`ll try to look although I doubt if I`ll find anything.

Are there any maps or such of how areas are zoned?

Here's the Birmingham online zoning map: http://gisweb.informationbirmingham.com/

Drifting is permitted in CB-2, B-2, M-1, and M-2 zones.  We need 7 or more paved acres of parking lot space in said zone.

There is a finder's fee that we will gladly pay to you if you find such a place for lease.

Has anything been found yet?
I noticed the page now says coming soon to Moody. Or I just never noticed it before.

We had a lease, then the landlord in Moody backed out at the last minute.  That experience tipped us off to some property for sale, however, so hopefully we will have something purchased in the very near future that will give U-Drift full control over its future, instead of being somewhat dependant on a landlord.

Well I'm still hoping for the best. I don't live close enough to look for b'ham property or I would help. I am in the process of trying to obtain an AE86 to try some drifting though.

U-Drift has now secured all rights to the former Alabama Auto Auction site in Moody, 1.5 miles North of I-20, just outside of Birmingham!

More information soon...

Im sure atlanta guys will be willing to come try this place out. hows the surface?

The surface has a wave in it where they rounded off the elevation for water drainage.  There is also one pothole out there that needs to be filled and patched with fresh asphalt.

We'll need to lay out the cones to take advantage of the above topography on the drift course.  Easy enough to do, just requires being smart about course placement/layout.

Please let the Atlanta guys know that we'll be having a public sneak preview for a few hours next week (10/17) even though we haven't opened yet.

We've got a new drifting event, too.  Barrel Racing!

Sorry I was asking about the physical texture of the asphalt.  On a scale of 1-10, 1 being baby smooth and 10 being a cheese grader what would you rank the majority of the surface?

I replied in another thread but is there a phone number or email I can contact you directly at?

I'd rank it at 5 or 6.

It'll be good to see you out there. However, it's not quite open for business yet. Fri 20th.

I am very truly humbled by God answering my prayers.  He truly provides, and He seems OK with having some good clean car fun, too!
