Odd that they shut down their own web site: www.southeastdrift.com DriftMechaniks are quiet on the whole matter, too. Very strange. SED got started by AndySapp back in 2004 from there, right?!
Whatever happened, the insiders haven't let the whole story slip out quite yet.
U-Drift tried and tried to lease the large parking lots out there like the gigantic Adesa auction site. Might still do it for a franchise at some point, but no one out there has been receptive so far.
Well seems that they just aren't making money and they're losing money and don't want to keep shelling it out of their own bank account...although I think they should have just shut down the pro-am since I can actually see it losing money, and then just rented Turner for less hours to cut costs down.
They didn't sell out last time like normal and I think they just pooped themselves and called it quits for the rest of the year. They should have held out for the remaining public events at least, and then over the winter came up with a better business plan...meh what do I know though. I'm just a kid.
Nothing that wasn't touched on here already. Marcos had many professional and personal obligations and priorities that led him to cancel the rest of the years events. I hate to see misinformation circulated. This wasn't an instance of cut and run or a decsion made in haste. Hopefully SED will come back in 2011 with some sort of schedule.
The websites hosting just happened to expire that month and Marcos did not renew it which is very unfortunate as I and others had put a lot of work into it. I know it looks bad to not have any sort of explination there.
By leaving no explaination, they are asking for stories to be made up about what happened.
Exactly. SED events were fun and Marcos is cool, so what probably happened was a mere series of unfortunate coincidences, but these 3 things are going to get people talking/guessing eventually:
1. SED drift events cancelled in mid-season 2. SED web site shut down entirely 3. SED web site stopped getting recorded by the internet's "Wayback Machine" back in April of 2008: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.southeastdrift.com
Suddenly there is no online trace of anything SED-related for 2009 or 2010, and scheduled SED events aren't happening.
That's not going to make it easy on the next guy trying to resurrect SED events in 2011, as people are going to wonder if paying in advance for events is a bad idea if it gets shut-down mid-season.
The better way to handle the shut-down would have been more orderly, with an on-line explanation remaining up until the SED was re-started in a later year.
Hosting a web-site is just $5 per year. Pretty nominal fee to shut-down properly.
